HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER OF NIG ?

NIG membership is open to everybody that is interested in the technology called Internet.

Membership cuts across the strata of the society and this includes the academia, non-governmental organisations, government and parastatals, private organisations and individuals. See list of members as Appendix 1 for details.

There are three (3) categories of membership registrations, namely:
Corporate – =N=50,000
Individual – =N= 5,000
School Chapter – =N= 5,000
50% of the registration fee is paid annually as membership annual renewal fee.

The application form is obtainable at the Secretariat, 48 Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. Completed form should be returned to the Secretariat with your cheque or cash made out to “Nigeria Internet Group”. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MEMBERS ?

 Members will have access to an e-mail account, your name@nig.org.ng for individual members.
 Members will have access to our Digital Library and other e-learning contents.
 Members will receive electronic communications/publications, namely:
– Program, meeting and activity notifications
– NIG e-Newsletter
– Public policy statements, results of research etc.
 Members will participate in programs and activities such as, attend trainings, exhibitions, workshops, conferences for free or at subsidized rates.
 Members will have access to consulting services of the Group
 Members will have access to the members’ only portion of our website (Chat, resolve technical questions etc.)
 Members will also be eligible for the elective positions of the Group, namely The President, Vice President, Treasurer and Publicity Secretary during the Groups Annual General Meeting (AGM).

 NIG will provide corporate members with short company profile on our website (and link to their home page)
 NIG will render free short course on web development for school chapter
 NIG school chapters will have the opportunity to participate in the Think Quest competition.
 NIG will also organize a training workshops on computer and Internet usage for the school chapters.
 As a member of NIG you will receive a discount on advertisement in NIG publications, also discount from member Internet Service Providers.

WHEN WAS NIG FORMED ?

Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) was formed in March 1995 and licensed by the Nigerian Communications Commission as the Nigeria Top Level Domain .ng administrator. NIG is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as non-profit, non-governmental organisation whose primary aim and objective is to promote Internet access in Nigeria through organization of Conferences, Seminars, Exhibitions, Training Workshops on Computer and Internet usage etc.

WHAT DO NIG DO ?

 NIG administers the Nigerian Top Level Domain .ng
 NIG promotes Internet access and connectivity as a tool for development through awareness creation such as conferences, exhibitions, seminars, workshops etc.
 NIG sensitises government on the virtues of the Internet and encourage the free use of Internet as a tool for national development.
 Assist in formation of relevant Government policies affecting the Internet.
 NIG promotes standards and ensure compliance.
 NIG promotes national archives and databases, development and promotion of Intra-Nigeria Network, and to participate in the management of IP addresses nationally.
