The Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), founded in 1995, is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation committed to promoting the growth, responsible use and development of the Internet in Nigeria.
NIG pursues its mandate through policy advocacy, awareness creation, education, conferences, seminars, exhibitions, workshops and publications that support Internet adoption and digital development across the country.
NIG works with stakeholders across government, industry, civil society and the technical community to support policies and initiatives that strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

To promote the provision of affordable, reliable and inclusive Internet access for all Nigerians.
To sensitise government, institutions, businesses and citizens about the potentials of the Internet as a critical tool for economic development.
To promote the development of local Internet content through the adoption of online services such as e-Government, e-Health, e-Learning, e-Commerce, e-Entertainment and other digital services.
To promote the formulation of appropriate policies and legislation that ensure the growth and development of the Internet in Nigeria.
To promote the creation and adoption of appropriate Internet standards and encourage compliance with such standards across the ecosystem.
NIG’s activities contributed to increased awareness of the Internet in Nigeria and helped accelerate national interest in connectivity and digital participation.
NIG raised awareness on the need to domesticate the administration of the Nigeria Top Level Domain name (.ng), contributing to the eventual transfer of .ng administration to Nigeria.
The Group’s advocacy also contributed to the licensing of the first set of Internet Service Providers by the then military government, at a time when Internet adoption faced institutional resistance.
NIG has made positive and impactful contributions to policies and legislations connected to the Internet and ICT sector, including national IT policies, the NITDA Act, the EFCC amended Act, cybersecurity legislation, the National Policy on Telecommunications and the Telecoms Act.
Since 1995, NIG has played an important role in building public understanding of the Internet and advocating for the infrastructure, policy and institutional conditions required for Internet growth in Nigeria.
Join NIGNIG hosted early international workshops on Internet connectivity in Nigeria, including “A Way Forward” and “Implementing Affordable and Sustainable Internet Connectivity in Nigeria” in 1995, and other major awareness programmes thereafter.
NIG received a Presidential directive to work with the Ministry of Communication to remove constraints and obstacles to Internet service provision and development in Nigeria.
NIG organised and co-organised Internet training courses, seminars, conferences, workshops and exhibitions, including technical training programmes and participation in network technology workshops for developing countries.
NIG co-organised major events including AFRINET 1999 and 2000 with the Nigerian Communications Commission, NIG Internet Conventions, e-Business Conferences, Internet for Jobs seminars, roundtables and investor forums.
Through advocacy and awareness campaigns, NIG contributed to the environment that enabled the licensing of Internet service providers and stimulated national Internet gateway and backbone infrastructure initiatives.
As an advocacy group, NIG has contributed significantly to ICT policies and issues of national importance for the development of the Internet in Nigeria.
Destiny Amana is President of the Nigeria Internet Group and Managing Director/CEO of Icecool Contracts Limited, an indigenous web design and IT solutions company headquartered in Victoria Island, Lagos State.
He is an alumnus of King’s College Lagos and Imperial College London, where he graduated in Materials Science and Engineering. He also holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Bath, specialising in web-related technologies.
